La Stella Blu Quality Baby Carriers, Baby Slings, and Baby Wraps

>> Wednesday, March 31, 2010

La Stella Blu is all about Baby Wearing! I know that my babies loved the baby carrier. In fact, I loved the baby carrier because it helped keep them happy and freed me to be able to do more things!

Babywearing is one of the oldest traditions of parenting around the world. Here are just a few of the many benefits of carrying your baby:

* Carried babies cry less.
* Enhanced development because babies spend a greater amount of time in the "quiet alert" behavioral state, the optimal state for learning.
* Develops strong attachment to parents/ facilitates bonding.
* Lowers stress level of infant.
* Allows parent freedom of movement.

There are several types of baby carriers and tons of brands. La Stella Blu aims to make baby carrier shopping easy for you. They "have searched the world far and wide to provide you with the safest, most well made, and stylish baby slings available. With so many baby carriers to choose from we thought it was due time to provide one comprehensive website that took the work out of your shopping experience."

La Stella Blu has a section to educate you on the types of carriers and which ones are most beneficial and why for different baby stages. They have chosen their favorites for different activities and clearly explain why.

Check out this super cute Owl Moby Wrap Baby Carrier! "The Moby Wrap baby carrier is one of the most comfortable and versatile ways to carry your baby. The Moby Wrap consists of a long piece of fabric that you tie around yourself, and then your baby can be carried in many different positions. The fabric is spread across your whole back and shoulders to evenly distribute the weight of your baby."

I love this Indian Summer fabric print but they have a huge variety of choices. "Hotslings are made from a sleek one piece fitted design are very compact and easy to use. Pouches are excellent for quick trips and errands."

This Baby Hawk Soft Pack Baby Carrier is similar to the kind I used and loved. It provides even weight distribution across your back and shoulders and has padded shoulder straps for comfort. This model has many different carrying positions including front, back and hip! Carry your child from birth to 40 lbs!

La Stella Blu also has some really cute baby clothing in pima and organic cotton. La Stella Blu even has a sale section you can check out because everyone loves saving money. You will be glad you found this great website!

Thorlos Socks for Foot Protection

>> Sunday, March 28, 2010

I recently received a pair of socks from Thorlos to try. I was actually unfamiliar with their concept which I find to be very valuable. Thorlos socks provide padding in just the right places to replace the fat pads on your feet that naturally wear away with age.

During all moving activities the foot is subjected to three main forces: Pressure, impact and shearing force. The Thorlos are anatomically designed with patented terry padding to protect feet from these forces. Instead of the tissues on your feet moving in opposite directions, the terry padding moves under your feet, transferring the movement from the tissues of the foot to the terry padding itself.

And to ensure that your feet are protected from the adverse effects of accumulated perspiration inside the shoe, surface moisture and water vapor are effectively channeled to the outside of the foot where they can be evacuated through the shoes. This is accomplished with the Thorlos proprietary yarn combinations that include THOR·LON® Acrylic, CoolMax® and other high tech fibers that 'wick' moisture away from the foot.

According to Thorlos, "This combination of moisture management and the reduction of pressure, impact and shearing forces reduces fatigue, and helps you to enjoy your sport or activity longer, with the confidence that your feet are protected by the best foot gear available today... ONLY Thorlos have peer-reviewed, published medical studies that confirm these benefits of pressure, impact and shearing reduction , as well as a study that shows the benefit of enhanced circulation in the lower extremities from wearing Thorlos."

Thorlos has several lines of socks geared toward different physical activities such as running, tennis, walking, hiking, basketball, and everyday comfort. I tried Experia® Socks powered by THORLO pads. Experia is anatomically engineered for aero-dynamic fit and protection without weight. They are designed for high performance runners, cyclists, hikers and fitness walkers who prefer a minimal amount of foot protection. These socks are great for me and others that may not be used to the padding to because they are padded in only the most necessary areas. They are definitely a good looking sock. I loved the way they hug your feet and really shape to your foot without any loose areas. At the same time they do not feel at all constricting. I liked the feel of the socks and I did notice the extra cushioning felt great on my feet during long walks. I am going to tell my mom and grandmother about these socks too because I think they could really benefit from these socks. Check out Thorlos and see all of their attractive socks and pick the ones that are right for you. They also have free shipping when you order 3 pairs!

Thorlos did provide me with the free pair of Experia in hopes that I would share my honest opinions. I did not receive and any monetary compensation and the opinions expessed are my own.

Earth Hour- Show your support for conserving and going green today!

>> Saturday, March 27, 2010

Break into your home bars, sit on the grass, and look at the stars! It is time to celebrate Earth Hour!

I love nature! I love the outdoors. I love being under the sky and surrounded by all the beautiful creations and "miracles" which nature is so full of. I want to make sure that we don't disturb the balance of the beautiful earth we are on which is becoming more and more likely as the human population growth is exploding. I think we can all do a little to help conserve. If you feel like I do you, I would love for you to join my Cafe Mom Group Green Earth Green Home and I would really love for you to participate in Earth Hour today!

According to WWF, "On Earth Hour hundreds of millions of people around the world will come together to call for action on climate change by doing something quite simple—turning off their lights for one hour. The movement symbolizes that by working together, each of us can make a positive impact in this fight, protecting our future and that of future generations."

Since its inception three years ago, Earth Hour’s non-partisan approach has captured the world’s imagination and became a global phenomenon. Nearly one billion people turned out for Earth Hour 2009 – involving 4,100 cities in 87 countries on seven continents.

On Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 8:30 p.m. local time, Earth Hour will once again cascade around the globe. Parents, please show your kids how they can make a difference at http://www.earthhourkids.org

My Earth Hour.Org provides this insightful information-

Impacts of Climate Change

1. Because of climate change, the loss of Arctic sea ice is destroying the habitats of polar bears and walruses, threatening their survival.
2. Because of climate change, In the Caribbean, warmer temperatures are skewing gender ratios of sea turtles, undermining the stability of the species.
3. Because of climate change winter sports such as skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing could become a thing of the past in many areas of the US.
4. From trout fishing in Montana to waterfowl hunting in Arkansas, many recreational activities enjoyed by Americans are at risk from climate change.
5. Most of us will experience climate change in the form of extreme weather: floods, droughts, heat waves and stronger storms and hurricanes.
6. Globally, climate change is causing glacial melt, sea level rise, loss of Arctic sea ice, increased insect infestation, wider spread of diseases and extreme weather events.

Understanding your carbon footprint

1. Most greenhouse gases are caused by the burning of fossil fuels for electricity generation and transportation.
2. Deforestation is another major driver of climate change, responsible for more carbon pollution than the entire global transportation sector.
3. A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of carbon pollution produced.
4. Simple ways to reduce your carbon footprint include: walk more, use public transportation, only buy what you need and recycle.

Tips to living green

1. Purchase energy efficient appliances. They cut carbon pollution and save you money!
2. Make sure your dishwasher and washing machine are always full before you run them as this will save energy and money
3. Weather-proofing your home is a great way to save energy. Caulk your doors and windows, add insulation or add shades to use in the summer!
4. Leaving your computer for awhile? Put it on stand-by & it will take less energy than shutting down and restarting
5. Fix leaking faucets. The constant drip wastes water, energy and money, so repair them as soon as possible.
6. Eat more veggies! On average, it takes nearly 10 times as much fossil fuel to produce animal protein compared to plant protein
7. Unplug appliances and phone charges when they aren’t in use. If they’re plugged in, they’re drawing energy and costing you money.

Where is the Wine?

There is currently a Red, White, and Food Campaign going on in Tennessee! Each state has its own liquor laws and here in Tennessee it is sold in liquor stores while beer is sold in supermarkets and conveince stores. The Red, White, and Food Campaign aims to make wine available in food stores.

I do think being able to purchase wine in a grocery store would be really nice. I really only use wine for cooking but it is very inconvenient to purchase at the moment and the stuff they call "cooking wine" at the grocery store gives your food a terrible flavor! I would have to drive quite far to the closest liquor store and then I would have to take my kids in with me and 2 children under five and tons of glass bottles is not a recipe for success!

If you are interested in learning more about the campaign to get wine into food stores, visit the Red, White and Food Website.

I think it would be great to have wine available in retail food stores. What do you think?

Amy's Kitchen- Organic Convenience Foods

>> Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Now that I have a family to feed we rarely eat out and it and we very rarely eat convenience foods. Before I was married though, I enjoyed many Amy's meals because I hated to do all that cooking for just me. Amy's let me have a healthy, yummy meal with out all the hassle.

I recently got some coupons for Amy's so I decided to give them a try on a night when my husband would not be home for dinner. I selected two dishes that sounded great but that I never make myself- Tamale Pie for me and Shepard's Pie for my little ones to split.

They were both yummy! The Tamale Pie was too spicy for my kids but not at all too spicy for me. The portion was just right for me, though I know it would not have been enough for my husband! The kids liked the Shepard's Pie. I had a bite and I could taste all the yummy flavors of spices and veggies coming together. It was a nice treat not to have to plan a meal. We won't do this everyday but it is great as a back up option!

I have to share with you some cool facts I learned about Amy's too! Amy's Kitchen was started in 1987 by a couple using their own house and barn as headquarters. The founding meetings were held in the same room where they married in and where their daughter Amy was born. I thought that was awesome that they were organic before that was a buzz word and that they had a homebirth just like I did with my kids.

Anyway, if you want to know more about Amy's, check out their website.

Mama's Money Savers was actually one of the first blogs I discovered. I somehow stumbled across the great giveaways on Mama's Money Savers and the great list of giveaway blogs. The blog was created by a stay at home mother and named “Mama’s Money Savers" because she "wanted to share deals, coupons, and ways to make and save money." I do really love product reviews, not just because I usually get to keep whatever I review, but because there are so many great products out there that are unknown. I also love to host giveaways because who doesn’t love to win something!"

Lily Organics- Award Winning Organic Skincare and Rejuvenating Enzyme Mask Review

>> Thursday, March 18, 2010

Lily Organics is a very unique organic skincare company in that it is "the only facial care line on planet Earth to grow its own ingredients on their own USDA Certified Organic farm and make fresh products weekly in their own FDA-inspected lab." It was established, in 1986, by Lily, who is actually a seventh generation farmer! Using absolutely no synthetic chemicals ever, Lily handcrafts fresh batches of her award-winning organic skincare.

Lily Organics makes cleansers, toners, moisturizers, lip moisturizer, mask, and has combinations of those available in gift bags and trial packs by skin type.

I tried Lily Organics Rejuvenating Enzyme Mask. First I got it out and read the ingredients. Here is the complete list- Honey, papaya, pineapple, certified organic comfrey, lily, horsetail, mint, vitamins E and C, citrus seed extract. Then I was washed my face with the sample of Lily Organics nourishing facial cleanser provided. Next I opened the mask, and saw that it looked and smelled like honey which made sense since that was the first ingredient listed. I loved that I was familiar with every ingredient, no mysterious, hard to pronounce ingredients! I rubbed it on my face and it goes on pretty clear. It feels slightly grainy and I could feel it gently exfoliating. It was pretty luxurious feeling! I left it on for about 15 minutes and then rinsed it off with warm water. I followed it with the sample packet of balancing moisturizer which was very light and smelled of ylang ylang- softly floral.
I really enjoyed the way of my skin felt smooth and soft after I took off the mask and look forward to doing it again tonight.

The Rejuventating Enzyme Mask is gentle enough for daily use and good for all skin types. It was "created to remove the build up of dead skin cells, stimulate new cell growth, balance combination skin and regenerate damaged skin. Honey is used as a humectant which draws needed moisture to the skin. Papaya and Pineapple contain proven protein digestive enzymes which dissolve dead skin cells, adding new luster and increasing the effectiveness of all other skin care products (especially the moisturizer). Comfrey, which is said to have skin regenerative properties, is in our mask as a cell proliferant. Healing Lily helps minimize the scars and diminish fine lines. Horsetail has a high silica content and helps rebuild Collagen. Mint is a stimulus to help draw blood to the area. Vitamins C and E are antioxidants which can slow down the aging process of free radical damage. " I love knowing this type of information on the ingredients in my products.

I love that with Lily Organics, they are always pure and fresh and always results guaranteed- products will improve your skin in thirty days or your money back! I also love that Lily Organics are handcrafted and grown fresh weekly, ensuring all nutrients are bio-available to regenerate your skin. Lily Organics let you go green- beautifully!

You can follow Lily Organics and receive information on specials on Twitter and Facebook. Visit Lily Organics and check out their great organic skincare and current specials.

Lily Organics did provide me with the Rejuvenating Enzyme Mask in the hopes that I would share my opinions of their product. I received no monetary compensation and the opinions expressed are my own.

ReUsies Reusable Snack and Sandwich Bags Green Giveaway

>> Wednesday, March 17, 2010

My daughter starts kindergarten next year and I will be packing her lunch and snacks so I am excited to have discovered ReUsies, a re-usable alternative to sandwich/snack bags. ReUsies™ are 100% cotton lined with leak-resistant nylon (BPA, Lead and Phthalate free) and are secured with Velcro® closures. Each is made in the U.S.A. one has the potential to eliminate hundreds of plastic bags.

ReUsies was founded by Seattle moms with a hope that the footprint we leave behind for future generations will be much smaller. "We take pride in our product and we hope you enjoy them too...We developed ReUsies™ for their waste-free quality, but many customers primary reason for purchasing our product was to eliminate plastic from being in direct contact with their family’s food. Whatever your reason, know you have made a good choice!"

ReUsies come in two sizes- snack and sandwich. We tried ReUsies out and found they worked great and the velcro closures were easy for my daughter to use.
The snack size holds a half sandwich perfectly and is also just right for holding some grapes or pretzels. The sandwich bag is great for holding a full sandwich or a larger snack. Right now, we are enjoying them for trips out around town and I am very excited to know that they will be useful for Sierra's lunches next year. They are also easy to care for. I just wiped them clean with a sponge and air dried, but you can also machine wash or wash in the dishwasher!

Kidorable Cutest Kid's Umbrella Giveway and Review of Adorable Kids Rain Boots

>> Sunday, March 14, 2010

Kidorable "delights both children and the adults who love them by transforming everyday, functional kids accessories into objects that excite their imaginations and enrich their lives at play." This is so true!! For my daughter's birthday, I gave her Kidorable Butterfly umbrella and matching rain boots and she loves them! I mean really adores them! She was so excited. She loved the that they matched and she has been playing with them none stop! She tried them on outdoors and indoors and then her little brother loves them too! He put on the rainboots and said they are his fireman boots! We made him a fire truck out of a cardboard box and they use the umbrella for a roof! They take turns putting on the boots and umbrella and strolling around the house. They are a huge hit. In fact, my son told me he is going to get boots for his birthday too and I think he may be right! I know the perfect ones!

Kidorable really has adorable stuff for kids! (Hence the name.) I could go crazy shopping at Kidorable because they have so many imaginative designs and so much matching stuff. Now I want to get the matching raincoat and backpack! They also have super cute kids towels, sunhats, bookends and hangers.
