How to make a bird feeder with your children: My kids loved this craft!

>> Sunday, May 30, 2010

This is a super easy and fun kraft that the kids and you will enjoy long after it is done! Can't say that everyday! Plus you get to recycle! All you need is an empty 1/2 gallon milk or juice carton and some string. They can decorate the bird feeder any way they want or not at all!

How to make a bird feeder with your kids:
Step 1. Wash out the carton. Cut a square out of the milk carton leaving a large enough lip at the bottom to hold the seed.

Step 2. Decorate anyway you like! My daughter used acrylic paints for most of it. She also used crayon and paper and glued that part on.

Step 3. Poke a hole through the gable of the carton and attach the string.

Step 4. Fill with birdseed.

Step 5. Hang from a branch and keep your eye out for birds!

Step 6. Help your child identify the different species with your own knowledge, a library book of regional birds, or online help. Let your child draw or color some of the birds you see!

WhaleBite MonsterHoodies- Fun Apparel for Kids by BustedTees: Review and Giveaway

>> Friday, May 28, 2010

BustedTees just launched a new decorative line of children's hoodies called MonsterHoodies. Whale Bites is the first style to be released and they have several other designs in the works for future deliveries.

My son received a Whale Bite Monster Hoodie and he, of course, really likes it! He loves pretending to be different things like a cowboy, a fireman, or some animal. He said, "This is what I want to be for Halloween, Mommy."

My daughter wanted to try it on too! That is the great thing about having them close in age, they can wear each others clothes sometimes!

I like that the sweatshirt is made of 100% cotton and is fairly lightweight. I also like that the sweatshirt and all of BustedTees products are made in the USA in a sweatshop-free environment.

BustedTees is offering my readers 10% off a MonsterHoodie or any other product of their choice on www.bustedtees.com with coupon code MOMSWEARYOURHOODIES.

Beverly is an organizing expert, speaker, team-building facilitator, and author of the 1-2-3...Get Organized series. She says, "My passions are to help people make home a refuge and to help people live in peace rather than chaos. After 30 years of helping people organize themselves, I’ve written 1-2-3…Get Organized – a series of books and workbooks (both print and downloadable) for those who are overwhelmed at the idea of organizing."

Now you will not be surprised when you find that when it came to promoting her site, she put her organizational talents to use! She created Mom Audience, a marketplace that connects moms with each other as well as with mom entrepreneurs- "mompreneurs" and businesses that appeal to moms. I receive her weekly newsletter email where she organizes everyone into helpful categories so we call all find what we are looking for. There are always new listings so moms can connect socially and professionally - and get noticed. Did I mention it is free to get listed in her newsletter?

Robby Wash High Efficiency Laundry Detergent- Review and Giveaway for a 12 Month Supply!

I was recently contacted to see if I wanted to review Robby Wash. I had never heard of it but I love trying eco-friendly products so I said sure. First I checked into the company that offers the Robby Wash, Oransi. I liked what they had to say, "With a passion towards all things clean we offer best in class products and cleaning tips in order to help people, the community and our environment... If we can save you money and it helps the environment - that is the right thing to do."

Robby Wash is a money-saving, ultra high efficiency, hypoallergenic laundry detergent ball. Here are some of the touted benefits:
* 10 ounces of Robby Wash replaces 75 lbs. of traditional laundry detergent – environmentally friendly.
* One Robby Wash lasts up to 12 months!
* It will save more than $100 over 120 washes – one Robby Ball is only $32.95 and lasts one year – a money saver.
* It is eco-friendly, hypoallergenic and safe – commonly used in Europe with baby laundry (as well as adults’ laundry).
* Effective in cold water- saves energy
* Guards fabrics against oxidation and discoloration caused by chlorine in the water, and maintains your clothes' springiness
* Eliminates unpleasant smells thanks to its antibacterial action
* Used in Europe for years – third party tested, proven and guaranteed to clean better than traditional powder laundry detergent.
* Meets the strict environmental compliance requirements of Europe (more stringent than U.S.) and contains no phosphates or chlorine.

I was really impressed with the description of the Robby Wash. I was a not sure exactly what to expect but I received a tiny little box in the mail that included the Robby Ball itself as well as some refill packets and a stain stick. I was and am amazed at how this small box will replace all of the jugs of detergent I usually buy in a year. I put the Robby Wash to the test without any extra effort since my children make every load a challenge! I had some underwear that my potty-training son had made a mistake in, some white pajamas that he had dripped chocolate ice cream all over and my daughter's sleeping bag which had some big dirty spots on it. I washed with cold water an the Robby Ball was really effective! All of the clothes came out spot free except I could still see very faintly traces of the chocolate ice cream. I was very impressed. I also liked that there was a very soft clean scent but nothing too overwhelming because I am not into chemical perfumes.

How it works: "The Robby Wash ball uses a unique and patented worldwide technology to clean your laundry even better than the powder laundry detergents it was independently tested against. Its activated macromolecules are gradually released through the wash, dissolving dried-in stains by generating ions which activate the water molecules. This increase in the pH enables the activated molecules to penetrate deep into the fabrics and attach themselves to the stains. As the motion of the drum agitates the clothes, the stains come away easily from the fabric and dissolve in the water. Of all the systems on the market, Robby Wash's effectiveness is tested, proven and guaranteed."

You can visit Oransi to buy it or learn more about the Robby Wash high efficiency laundry detergent wash ball.

Oransi is going to provide one lucky reader with one Robby Wash Blue Laundry Ball Pack which lasts (on average) for an entire year!

Boyongolo Marble Track Construction Game From Oh! Toys Plus a chance to win a $200 GC

>> Tuesday, May 25, 2010

cool toys

My husband really loved marble runs when he was a kid and he has been wanting to get one for our children. I had never had one but I figured a marble run would be a winner since all kids love balls, movement, and building! We tried out the Boyongolo Marble Track Construction Game from Oh! Toys.

marble track runThe Boyongolo is a unique, brightly colored plastic ball run construction toy. It combines snap-together assembly of pieces with planning out the path of the ball. It is really loads of endless fun that can be put together in more and more complex ways as they grow older. I also love that it comes with a very nice box for storing the pieces and my daughter likes to arrange them like a puzzle inside. I can't imagine a kid who wouldn't love this toy!

My children totally love the Boyongolo and so does my husband! Even I enjoy playing it with them. I think that the coolest part about Boyongolo is that is great at engaging the adults too so it makes for a great together time activity with the kids. It was really fun building tracks with them, watching they way they think and learn and react to how and where the ball rolls. It is even cooler to walk in the room and see what they have built all by themselves- it made me so proud!

You can check out Boyongolo Marble Track Run Construction Blocks and lots of other unique toys at Oh! Toys and at the moment of my writing this, it is on sale! If you "like" Oh! Toys on Facebook and leave a comment, you will be entered to win a $200 GC from Oh! Toys.

Organic Whole Golden Flaxseed from Tropical Traditions Review and Giveaway

>> Monday, May 24, 2010

I wanted to do this review and host this giveaway because I think a lot of people have never even heard of flaxseed and yet it is so good for you and so easy to add to your diet. Study after study confirms that the oil- (Omega 3) and fiber components of flaxseed have wonderful health benefits. I would recommend flax seed to anyone but it is especially good for children since 75% of brain development occurs in the 1st few years of life and Omega-3s are known to be particularly crucial constituents of the outer membrane of brain cells. Omega-3 fatty acids provide many benefits, including improving learning and memory and helping to fight against depression, mood disorders, and dementia, according to Gómez-Pinilla, a member of UCLA's Brain Research Institute and Brain Injury Research Center.

I don't want to spend too much time laboring benefits of omega-3s to your health and brain but if you want to learn more just type "omega-3s" into a search engine and you will see how much research exists. So anyhow, I have always been familiar with flax seed as my mom used it fairly often. My mom told me that golden flax seed is best and I checked it out and she is right in that it has the highest omega-3 levels.

I started purchasing it and using it on my own when I became pregnant with my first child. Being a mother suddenly made me more conscious of my food choices! The best way to use flax seed is freshly ground. I use a coffee grinder and I put the ground organic whole golden flaxseed on top of a bowl of oatmeal with a little brown sugar and milk. We all love it that way! I also grind it and throw a couple tablespoons into our pancake batter, cookie batter, and almost anything I bake. It really has a mild taste and can be tossed into anything. Sometimes if I am feeling particularly lazy, I just throw it into recipes whole.

The Gracious Pantry Plans for Your Munchkin Helpers!

>> Sunday, May 23, 2010

Clean Eating Blog
I found a great blog that focuses on clean living and offers recipes which include a "munchkin helpers" section. If you are like me, you may be unfamiliar with the term, "clean eating." I assumed it meant healthy eating, which I am totally into. Here is how the writer of the Gracious Pantry defines it:
"The consumption of simple foods in their natural states. The avoidance of processed, boxed or otherwise “tampered with” foods. Eating at regular intervals of every 2-3 hours in small portions equaling approximately 200-300 calories each. Consuming 5-6 meals per day with the intent of regulating blood sugar levels and improving insulin absorption."

I found reading her story of why she is into clean eating very interesting! I also really loved that in most of her recipes, she includes a section called “Munchkin Helpers!”
The reason she does this is, "because I truly believe that there are far to many children in this country that are not involved with the process of preparing food, and too many parents that don’t understand HOW to teach their kids the kitchen basics." I totally agree with this statement and I really think that kids learn so much from helping in the kitchen besides that it is just plain fun to cook together!

The Gracious pantry believes that we should involve children with cooking, because "it gives them a connection with, and an understanding of food that they cannot get any other way. Just learning the basics of good nutrition alone is reason enough to bring girls and boys into the kitchen from a very young age." She also sites connections, skills, health and confidence as well as the increased likelihood that your kids will eat the creations.

The Gracious Pantry offers recipes by ingredient as well as recipes for clean eating kids.

The Cutest Southern Belle Costume for My Little Girl To Play Dress Up

wholesale costumes
My little girl loves to play dress up when her friends come over! Not so much when she is by herself, but when her friends are here they get all dressed up and play pretend games. I just found my favorite dress up girls costume ever for her! It is so cute! They call it a Southern Belle Costume but I would call it the Scarlet O'Hara gown. It looks just like the dress that Scarlet O'Hara got all dolled up in at the beginning of the movie. It is really darling!! I just love that it is a fancy, beautiful dress but not a princess dress. I get sick of all the princess stuff and she just loves it. This costume is a great compromise!

Did you see my little boy? Doesn't he look gorgeous?!! He was jealous that I didn't get him a costume so he wanted to try it on too! I figured it will be a great black mail photo to get him to clean his room in middle school! Just kidding!
George Washington costumebatman costume
Wholesale Costumes
has tons of choices. I bet my little boy would love this batman costume but I think this George Washington outfit would be darling!

Wholesale Costumes also has adult costumes in case you need to get ready for a coming Renaissance Fair or some other fun event!

Wholesale Costume Club did provide me with the costume for my daughter in the hopes that I would share my honest opinions. I received no monetary compensation and the opinions expressed are my own.
