I Found The Cutest Children's Desk at CSN Stores

>> Saturday, July 31, 2010

My daughter is starting kindergarten in just about two weeks. We are so excited! We have getting all her school supplies and school uniforms and I realized she doesn't have a desk to do her homework on. At first I thought she would just do it on the kitchen table but when I checked out the options for children's desk at CSN Stores, I found the cutest kids desk perfect for my kindergartener and it was affordable!

The desk I selected for my daughter is called Studio Designs Kids Drafting Table with Stool and came with FREE shipping! The Studio Designs Kids Drafting Table and stool comes in two color combinations. The purple/pink is perfect for little girls but Sierra will be sharing the desk with her little brother so we choose the green/blue option which is really vibrant.
kids desk photo

The box arrived quickly and was very compact. It was packaged very well to prevent any scratches and dents during transit. The Studio Designs Kids Drafting Table also came with very clear easy to assemble directions and my husband put the desk and stool together in under 15 minutes. Needless to say my kids love it! My daughter is very proud to have her very own desk where she can do her homework. The desk comes with a 17" paper roll, roll holder and paper glide which holds the paper in place. My daughter has been prolific in her artwork since it arrived! (In fact, what should I do with it all?!)

Some more features I really like about the Studio Designs Kids Drafting Table is that it is made of "environmentally friendly board" and that the top of the desk is painted black so that all the marks they make when they go off the paper don't show up! I also think it says a lot that the manufacturer provides a 10 years warranty.

Check out this desk or anything from housewares to pet supplies at CSN Stores. One more thing- while you are on their home page, check out all the great giveaways they have going on right now at the bottom of the page!

CSN did provide me with a credit at their stores in the hopes that I would chose to share my honest opinions about my purchasing experience. I did use the credit towards the purchase of this desk in conjunction with my own money and the opinions expressed are my own.

Anomia Card Game 2010 Mensa Select Winner with Free Shipping at Oh! Toys

>> Friday, July 30, 2010

I love Oh! Toys because they have so many unusual toy finds! Recently, I got to try the Anomia card game.
Anomia card game photo
Anomia is recommended for ages 10+ so I tried it out with a few friends from MOMS Club. It is a really fun game where it can be your turn at any time and anyone can be your opponent! The tag line for it is, "Where common knowledge becomes uncommonly fun," and this is really a fitting description. The game operates with endless categories that should be common knowledge and uses symbol matching to prompt face-offs between two people at anytime. It is really fun to see what people think of for each category and who is really quick on their toes under pressure and can shout the answers out first! In Anomia, there is no down time and it requires you to stay engaged the whole time resulting in an energetic, fun game full of competition.

Even though the Anomia box suggest 3-6 players, there are instructions for playing with two players and I tested this out with my husband. I thought it was really fun (even though I lost twice in a row to him!) It is definitely a fun game and I think that my niece and nephew would have a ball playing it with us too. It seems like a great game for bridging the age gap and putting everyone on pretty equal footing.

Anomia is a 2010 Mensa Select® Winner- the gold standard of gaming. That means lots of other people besides myself think it is a high-quality product that you're likely to enjoy too. I think Anomia is great exercise for the brain!

Check out Anomia with free shipping at Oh! Toys as well as tons of great other fun games and toys. You can also take advantage of Oh! Toys 30% sale on Blue Orange and Family Games products until July 31, 2010.

Oh Toys did provide me with Anomia in the hopes that I would share experiences. The opinions expressed are my own.

Our Smoky Mountain Campling Vacation With Kids

>> Thursday, July 29, 2010

We're back from our vacation in the Smoky Mountains. We loved it so much last year that we went again!

We started out by heading up through Townsend where we stopped at IGA and loaded up our cooler. We then went to a very important stop for me- the Snowball Stand! I always stop for a Snowball at least once on our trip! (For those of you who don't know, a snowball is kind of like a snowcone only 300 times better because the ice is soft and fine and there are way more flavors.) This Snowball Stand operates from a little trailer that is always parked outside River Rat Tubing. I got half pina colada and half peach and it was yummy as always. Then we continued on up to our campsite in Elkmont.

We love Elkmont Campground because it is so beautiful and it is located right along the river so there is plenty of water fun right next to your campsite. It is also pretty well shaded and has bathrooms pretty close to all sites. We spent the first day tubing in the river, catching minnows, and socializing with the neighboring campers from Mississippi.

The next day we headed on up to hike Clingman's Dome. It was really nice! I highly recommend it. It was an easy half mile hike up to the top and you get a full 360 of beautiful views from the top. The trail is paved so great for kids and nice and wide. Then we headed back down to Sugarlands for a picnic and to catch a ranger talk about salamanders. We went back to the campground for napping and tubing and cooking out. Another nice leisurely day gone!

Oh! I forgot to mention our bear spotting! We spotted a black bear silently moving through some freshly emptied campsites! I felt very fortunate but Sierra was not so convinced and wanted to hide in the tent until I could assure her it was gone. Leo was up for viewing safely from a distance with us!

We visited Gatlinburg for our adventurous day. We got to the Gatlinburg Ripley's Aquarium right as it opened at 9:00am and it was super nice. It was a bit pricey for adults but kids were cheap and it was worth it. We went through the shark lagoon tunnel twice the kids loved it so much. After that we did little site seeing on the main street and then went back to the campground for more tubing and napping! For dinner we headed back to Gatlinburg for some really yummy food at the Smoky Mountain Brewery. We also decided to splurge on mini-golf and a hall of mirrors. If you have never done a hall of mirrors before, I suggest you try it. It was totally fun and really an unusual experience. They let us go back through it for free two extra times!

The next morning we loaded up and headed out. Another fun trip to the Smoky Mountains, gone in a flash!

got2b Smoothing Lustre Lotion Gets Rid of Frizz and Fly Aways

I recently ran out of my hair product that has been smoothing my frizz and fly aways. I had heard of göt2b® Smoothing Lustre Lotion from BzzAgent and I decided to give it a try since it is almost 60% cheaper than my previous product. I was very curious to see how it would work in comparison.

göt2b® Smoothing Lustre Lotion comes in a pump bottle. I just squirt 2 pumps into my palms and rub it around then smooth onto my damp hair after I get out of the shower. Super easy and it definitely helps smooth my frizz. It also works on dry hair when I need a little added smoothing! I usually prefer an unscented product or very lightly scented product so for me, I find it a bit too fruity, but I know that most people tend to prefer a scent.

göt2b® Smoothing Lustre Lotion says of itself that it is "infused with luxurious cashmere, shapes, smoothes, controls fly-aways and imparts an amazing weightless lustre and softness. Helps to protect against damage from heat styling and contains a UV protectant." I agree that it is super soft and you can't really tell from look or feel that you have product in your hair other than the lack of frizz and fly-aways.

It is available through CVS and Walgreens in my area or you can use the got2b store locator to find got2b product near you.

I'm a BzzAgent and I received a Smoothing Lustre Lotion sample from BzzAgent so that I could share opinions with others.

Antioxidant Omega 3 Natural Greens Supplement Review and Giveaway

>> Tuesday, July 20, 2010

You may be familiar with Tropical Traditions from some of the reviews I have done on their really great coconut oil and raw honey. They have a pretty large selection of things that are healthy for you! I decided that I would like to try their Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens Supplement. I always find myself rummaging around and eating the kids left overs at lunch time and I was excited to try the Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens because I figured it would help me improve my lunch time intake without any extra work or time! Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens sounded so great to me because it is like a 3 in 1 boost to your health.

Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens arrived packaged in a jar with a convenient scoop for measuring the dried powder into your drink. It comes in both mint and berry flavor. I tried the berry flavor and I was amazed that it tastes, well, like berries! My kids even liked it! Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens is so packed with stuff that is good for you, that I can barely tell you about all of it but I will try to squeeze as much info as I can.

"Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens supplies a rich blend of totally natural vitamins, minerals, plant enzymes, antioxidants, phytonutrients and symbiotic intestinal flora for optimal energy metabolism, digestion, detoxification, and immune enhancement.*"

I took a look at the Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens ingredients and it has omegas from organic flax seed, a fiber blend (which is great because most people don't meet the suggested daily intake for fiber), a greens blend that helps alkalize the body, a vegetable blend, an antioxidant blend that helps energize and protect from free radicals, an enzyme blend to help with digestion, and probiotics that help boost immunity.

Many experts recommend
5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.
Easy to say, hard to do!
Antioxidant Omega 3 Rich Natural Greens makes it that much easier for me!

GIVEAWAY DETAILS:
Tropical Traditions is offering one lucky reader one Antioxidant Omega 3 Natural Greens.

Natural Chemical-Free Sunscreen Review and Giveaway

>> Monday, July 19, 2010

I recently heard about SunBlocker Natural Sun Screen.

I wanted to know- "What makes sunscreen/ sunblock natural?"

As it turns out, the active ingredients, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, in most conventional brands of sunscreen are synthetically produced. What's wrong with that you may ask? Well, the sunscreen industry has begun using nanotechnology to make the white, opaque elements of titanium and zinc more transparent and this is giving rise to alarm in alternative health circles. When made into nano-particle size, titanium particles can enter the body through the skin becoming a highly reactive substance. The potential harm of this synthetically generated nano-particle titanium and zinc has not been extensively studied yet.

With this information in mind, I sought out some natural sunblock to review. For Your-Bug-A-Boo, a natural baby boutique, was generous enough to let me try the Mama Rose’s Naturals SunBlocker All Natural Sunscreen, SPF 30.
natural sunscreen sunblock
Mama Rose’s Naturals SunBlocker All Natural Sunscreen is made with natural Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide derived from clay and beach sand deposits. The Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioside used in Mama Rose's they are completely natural and free from nanotechnology processes. These powerful minerals form a barrier shield on the skin that reflect and scatter away both UVA and UVB rays of ultraviolet light, while also helping skin cells to regenerate. I applied the sunscreen to my kids and to myself right before we went into Wave Country. It had a pleasant light scent and it went on smoothly and evenly. I did notice that where I forgot to rub it in (like the back of my hand), it dried leaving a white appearance which was interesting to be able to see the difference without the nano-particles. I also noticed that though conventional sunblock usually stings my face a bit, Mama Rose's Naturals SunBlocker did not sting my face. I really liked that! We were in the solid sun at Wave Country and in the water for about 4 hours and it worked very well. Even my son, who is fair, was well protected from the sun.

Mama Rose's Naturals SunBlocker also offers some great natural bonus ingredients to help nourish and moisturize the skin:

Green Tea Extract. Numerous studies have revealed that green tea helps protect from sunburn and may reduce damage from sun radiation.

Sunflower oil. A superior moisturizer. In addition, it also contains vitamins A, D and E. And this excellent ingredient is used to moisturize many skin types.

Coconut oil. Used for hundreds of years to moisturize their skin. It also absorbs sunrays, and is mild and gentle on sensitive skin.

Glycerine. Used as an emollient, glycerine improves your skin's natural moisture by attracting just the right amount of water to maintain healthy skin.

Jojoba oil. Acts as an emulsifier with the skin’s natural sebum. Contains superior moisturizing and skin conditioning properties.

Tocopheryl (aka Vitamin E). Protects body tissues from breaking down, and helps skin to heal and overcome harmful effects of the sun. It also acts as a natural preservative.

Shea butter. Natural plant lipid used as both a thickener and an emulsifier. It also has effective moisturizing and healing properties.

Eucalyptus oil. An antibacterial essential oil that assists other oils to be absorbed in the skin, as well assisting the moisturizing process.

We enjoyed using Mama Rose's Naturals SunBlocker and knowing that it was free from dangerous artificial chemicals and synthetic fragrances. Mama Rose's SunBlocker provides the perfect amount of nourishment for tender skin with mild natural fragrance while being water and sweat resistant.

Mama Rose’s Naturals SunBlocker All Natural Sunscreen is on sale at For-Your-Bug-Boo Natural Baby Boutique until 7/31/2010!

Become the Trusted Problem Solver of the Household

This is a guest post written by Logan Lindabury, "the Happiness Coach".

So I'm a 20 year old male. What could I possibly know about wives and mothers? How could I possibly relate to them on a level that makes you, a wife/mother, want to read this? Answer: I have a Mother who has been here for me since…since before I was born!

So, maybe I know something, maybe I don't. I'll let you decide. But what I can do is provide some tips for you and help you find some happiness in your life. I can tell my own personal stories and help you see different solutions to your problems.

Because after all, Mom's know best and sharing that knowledge amongst other Moms and Wives will help you finally get your children to clean their own rooms!

So we'll start today with journaling/diary keeping. Since I was a little kid I have kept a journal on and off. You should encourage your children to do the same. Don't force them, because it will only be a horrible experience if you do.

And more importantly, let them call it what they want! Do not call it a diary if they call it a journal, it will only frustrate them. Believe me.

Plus, there is actually a difference between "diary" and "journal." Diary is something that you write in every single day, about the events of that day. Journal is something that you write in periodically about any event of your choice. At least that is my understanding of it.

So you're not a Mom? No big deal. Encourage your husband to do this. Encourage yourself to do it. But here's the BIG part: Do NOT read anyone else's journal/diary unless you have been given explicit permission; and even with permission proceed with caution.

Because once you break that trust, once you violate that privacy, the person writing the journal/diary will likely STOP writing or write secretly and always be anxious about you reading it in the future.

So, just do NOT go there.

My Mom knew I wrote a journal and as far as I know she never once tried to read them. Today, I keep most of them in a fireproof/waterproof safe for two reasons: (1) No one can be tempted and (2) If something happened to our house, my journals would be safe.

So you're asking: how does this help me be happy? Because by letting your children have their privacy you will soon find that they come and talk to you about things that really matter; things that get written about in the journal on a regular basis.

So in essence, writing in a journal deals with most of their problems but the most significant ones are brought to you. You may see this as the opposite of happiness right now but that will change. You'll soon be happy that your kids trust you with their biggest challenges and that they turn to you to help solve them.

I can tell by the look on my Mom's face that she enjoys helping out with such problems. Okay, maybe not all the time; but definitely a majority of the time. The same can be said about my Father, or most Fathers for that matter.

So, to recap: (1) Encourage journaling/diary keeping, (2) Do not violate privacy, and (3) Be prepared for happiness that will come as a result of being given an immense amount of trust.

This article was written by Logan Lindabury, the Happiness Coach from HappinessCanHelp.com. Do you want to enjoy your life? Do you want to find happiness no matter what happens? Then go to HappinessCanHelp.com and get started today.

Ecoland is a small family-owned company that believes in "helping our planet and our loved ones by producing the best quality organic cotton apparel." Through their products and business practices, they seek to promote environmental and social responsibility.

• The Environmental Protection Agency considers seven of the top 15 pesticides used on cotton in 2000 in the United States as “possible,” “likely,” “probable,” or “known” human carcinogens

Play Work Bench for Kids- Guidecraft Review and Giveaway

>> Thursday, July 15, 2010

kids furniture
Guidecraft has been around for 46 years and they make it their mission to "stay true to the tradition of smart, beautifully crafted wood products, which allow children's minds and imaginations room to truly wonder and grow." They have tons and tons of educational toys and really amazing kids furniture that will make your jaw drop from all the cuteness and functionality! I spotted something in the toys and manipulatives category that I knew would be perfect for my son and that I thought my daughter would enjoy too.

The kids work bench looked great to me because I have seen how much my daughter likes to try to take things apart and enjoys putting things together and I have seen huge admiration in my sons eyes when he watches his daddy work. I told Leo he was getting a special surprise in the mail and he was so excited when the box came! It was packaged well and the the image on the box was great so that he knew what to expect. We opened right up and it was well packaged inside to protect the painted pieces. The assembly was very easy with just 10 screws to insert and twist and the kids loved helping!

The workbench makes a great addition to their toy room as a nice piece of colorful furniture that looks cute, doesn't take up too much room and provides for lots of educational fun. They really love it. In fact, they have been getting up and playing with the workbench instead of coming and waking me up! (Of course, I still hear the banging wooden hammer on the wooden nail from bed!) Both my son and daughter enjoy working with it. There are holes in the top of the workbench that they enjoy hammering in and pulling out with the hammer and holes that they like screwing in with the wrench or screwdriver. The screws have different color tops and my daughter wrote numbers on the tops of the nails so that they could keep track of them too! They also like working with the c-clamp, vise and t-square. My son is very proud to have his own tools.

My daughter also enjoys organizing the workbench! She called me the other day and was so proud of how she had placed all of the tools neatly in their hanging spots and arranged all of the screws, nails, nuts, and bolts neatly in the drawer of the work bench. They have also been experimenting with building letters out of the pieces!

I am impressed with the quality and I am sure I will be able to pass it to many other families to enjoy when my kids grow out of it. We like the workbench so much that I am eager to try out some of Guidecraft's other amazingly cute items like, bookshelves tables and toy boxes.

GIVEAWAY DETAILS:
Guidecraft will give one lucky reader one kids wooden work bench complete with tools ($90 value).

Organic Cotton Toddler Underwear from Ecoland Review

>> Wednesday, July 14, 2010

My son is finally making the transition into big boy underwear! I searched for organic toddler underwear and I was surprised how difficult it was to find. Then I found Ecoland, "a small family-owned company that believes in helping our planet and our loved ones by producing the best quality organic cotton apparel."

Are you wondering what the benefits of organic cotton underwear are?

1. It Reduces Pesticide Use: Conventional cotton accounts for more than 10% of the world's pesticides and nearly 25% of the world's insecticides! Organic cotton is grown without toxic, synthetic chemical inputs. Imagine how much less toxins we would use if everyone switched to organic cotton!

2. It Helps to Protect Children: Infants and children are often more sensitive than adults to synthetic chemicals both internally and externally. Choosing organic cotton clothing may help to reduce their exposure.

3. It Protects Water Quality: Pesticide and fertilizer use on cotton has been linked to groundwater contamination, the primary source of drinking water for half of the US population.

4. It Supports a True Economy: Conventional cotton prices do not reflect the hidden costs we pay in taxes including billions of dollars in subsidies, pesticide regulation, hazardous waste disposal and overall environmental damage. Bet you never thought of this!

Ecoland carries organic cotton underclothes for the whole family. My son tried Boys organic cotton brief underwear, 2 pack. These organic toddler briefs are also available in a value 6 pack and they carry organic cotton tanks and undershirts as well. They came nicely packaged in a small 100% recycled paper box with soy based inks. They are super soft and they have a great cut. They fit my son very nicely and they wash well. The edges are all very soft and comfortable. I would definitely recommend these to others and I am curious to try their women's underwear collection now!

Ecoland did provide me with the toddler briefs in the hopes that I would share my honest opinions. I received no monetary compensation and the opinions expressed are my own.
