Why Stonyfield Yogurt is so Healthy for Kids and Where to Get Your Coupons!

I have always used organic yogurt and for my kids. "Why?" you might ask. I think a lot of people have heard that organics are good for kids but may be fuzzy on the answer to why they are so important. Babies, toddlers, and kids digestive tracts absorb toxins more readily than adult digestive tracts, and young kidneys don’t detoxify as efficiently as adult kidneys which results in toxins circulating longer in babies’ bodies, boosting exposure to four times that of adults! Researchers at the University of Washington found that by putting children on a mostly organic diet for just five days, they could “virtually eliminate exposures to a dangerous class of insecticides known to disrupt neurological development in infants and children.” In addition to this, I have always used organic dairy to avoid my children's exposure to the synthetic version of bovine growth hormone.

I started using Yo'Baby yogurt by Stonyfield because it came so conveniently packaged in just the right size and with a nice thick texture that made it easy to feed to my kids and easy for them to learn to feed themselves. My kids also love their yogurt super smoothie varieties. They now have a great new addition to their dairy line-up called 3-in-1 meals, a baby yogurt with fruit and vegetables! I think is is great for balancing the sweet flavors they get and helping get more balance in their diet. Another newer addition is their probiotic yogurt. This is really a great product because it has more strains of healthy probiotics that help raise the body's immunity and improve digestion. My kids and I haven't tried a single Stonyfield product we don't love!

ChemoAngels: You can make a difference in someone's life without even leaving your home.

My friend Mary was telling me that she came across a great website, Chemo Angels, while digging around online and has been really moved by her experience participating in Chemo Angels. "I love to volunteer, but I've found it difficult to devote time right now being home with the kiddies," says Mary. First Juice Gets Two Thumbs up from my family!

I had never tried First Juice until recently but it turns out we all love it! First Juice is a company that was started by a dad to create what he wanted to be able to give his own daughter but had difficulty finding- organic juice with less sugar and with the perfect packaging, a BPA-free, reusable sippy bottle. Everything about it sounds good and the colorful labels look good, but I put it to the test.


Let me first introduce my panel of judges. My daughter is not a big juice drinker and prefers mostly water. My son loves juice and could drink it all day long! I brought two bottles of First Juice with us on a road trip because of the great no spill reusable sippy bottle design. I gave them each a bottle and they started sucking it down. I asked Sierra, "Is this the best juice you ever had or just OK?" She said it was the best juice she ever had! She also said, "I definitely want you to order more of this juice!" I wasn't surprised that Leo loved it since he loves all juice but I was surprised when I later gave him the choice between a juice box and a First Juice bottle and he choose the First Juice.

I am so pleased to see that they enjoyed First Juice because after reading the label, I was sold. In fact, I wish we had discovered it when my son was a year old because I do believe that it really would be a great first juice. The flavors First Juice offers are not as sweet as many juices because the fruits are moderated by the addition of a a vegetable providing a little more of a tangy flavor. There are orange or purple carrots (which are really just beautiful) in each bottle! First Juice is also blended with purified water resulting in the lowest per-ounce sugar content on the market. Toddlers have such an impressionable palate and serving less sweet tastes from the start can promote healthier taste preferences. First Juice is also fortified with calcium, and vitamins A,C, and D.

First juice will get less sugar into my kids, more vegetables, and expand their palate all with the bonus reusable sippy bottle that is free of bispenol-a and phthalates and can be recycled! I am honestly surprised how much I love this product! I will be heading to Target to pick up some more! It is also carried by Whole Foods and Toys 'R' Us and can ordered on the First Juice Website. I first saw Groupon on the nightly news. It looked great! They offer great deals, like half off or more, that could only be offered if groups of people purchase in quantities that make it worth it to the offering company. I wished they did it in Nashville and now they do! They started operating a little over a year ago and have spread to 45 cities.

Antioxidants for energy, immunity and overall health!

You may have heard that antioxidants are very important to your health. This is very true and the best source is lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. In general, the brighter the color of the fruit or vegetable, the more useful vitamins you will get from eating it. Berries are most naturally high in antioxidants. Blackberry, raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, blueberry, and wolfberry are the great sources of antioxidants and they are yummy!

Antioxidants have proven an effective weapon in neutralizing the effects of free radicals. Uninterrupted, free radicals can wreak havoc with DNA, enzymes, and cells. High levels of free radicals have been linked to heart disease, cancer, arthritis, asthma and other inflammatory conditions.

Hepatitis C, Cured- More Relavant than you may think!

This topic of Hepatitis C may appear unrelated to most people but, according to the World Hepatitis Alliance, "shockingly one in 12 people worldwide are living with either chronic hepatitis B or hepatitis C. While this is far higher than the prevalence of HIV or any cancer, Hepatitis C awareness is inexplicably low and the majority of those infected are unaware." Hepatitis C is spread through contact with infected blood or products that have touched blood, such as a used razor, improperly sterilized manicure, dental, or medical equipment. This makes hepatitis C far more transmissible than most other blood borne viruses and gives it the nickname "an epidemic for anyone." Hepatitis C, aka HCV, is a contagious viral disease that leads to serious, permanent liver damage, and in some cases even death.

Sorry for the heavy content but awareness is key in preventing the spread of Hepatitis C. I do have some uplifting news for you those that have Hepatitis C or are fighting a chronic disease. Hepatitis C, Cured, is a book that chronicles one man's determined fight against the disease through unconventional methods, and his victory over Hepatitis C. It is inspiring and gives hope. It reminds people to fight for their health and be involved in their own healing.
