Bark it Furward- Leave a Comment and Milk Bone will Donate $1 to Canine Assistants

>> Saturday, December 18, 2010

It’s Good to Give… Tis the Season After All! I thought I would share a program called Bark it Furward with you. It was created to raise awareness and funds for a non-profit organization that trains and provides service dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities called Canine Assistants. For nearly 20 years, Canine Assistants has provided 1,000 service dogs to people across the country, giving them the chance to have more independent lifestyles and Milk-Bone® has been a charitable partner to Canine Assistants since 1997. Every time you buy Milk-Bone® dog snacks, a portion of the proceeds goes to help the Canine Assistants® organization!

Without the help of any government funding, Canine Assistants relies on the generosity and private donations made by philanthropic partners to help pay for the training of these special needs dogs. This service is so needed that there are actually over 2000 people on the waiting list! Bark It Furward was created by Milk-Bone® brand to educate others about the inspiring work being conducted by Canine Assistants. By joining the Bark It Furward movement, you can help raise awareness and much needed funds to provide assistance dogs for people with disabilities.

So how can you help?
Leave a comment! It is as simple as that.
For every comment this blog post receives, Milk-Bone® will donate $1 to Canine Assistants! Tell your friends too!

I think it's a great organization. I know a family who is trying to save up for a service dog for their little boy...they've applied to organizations that help get them for free or reduced, but there are long waiting lists. The more funding these organizations get via donations, the more dogs they can provide to families who need them!

What I like about Canine Assistants and Bark it Furward is everything! My mother and I trained police dogs and then when she became ill she trained her German Shepherd to help her do things. He is now with me but "retired". So really anything that helps bring awareness and funding to this cause is dear to me.

I LOVE that they give dogs a purpose. I have never been an animal person in my whole life. That all changed when we got our first dog as a family almost 8 years ago. I love my three fur babies with all that I am and love when other dogs are well cared for, given a purpose, and have a good life. I think it's a remarkable thing for a dog to do so much for people and you know it makes the dog feel fantastic.
