Oh! Toys Unique Toys and Games

I discovered Oh! Toys almost a year ago and the thing that I think is really cool about it is that Oh! Toys has a very unusual collection of toys and games that are really different, education, and fun! Today I am going to give you a peek at some of the unusual games they carry.

Gobsmacked. Place 3 in a row of the same color or shape and your opponent scores a point in this maniacal memory game! It will have your mind spinning as you try to remember the pattern on the board before it's spun around and another patterned plug is added. For 2 players ages 6 and up. This looks like a good one for my daughter some time soon!

Anomia. This card game is really fun and fast paced and gets you going! I played this one with some MOMS Club members and we all had a blast. Anomia is a hilarious play experience where everyone is involved at all times. Anomia plays off the fact that our minds are positively brimming with all sorts of random information and you have to be able to access it quickly so people end up shouting out all kinds of funny things! This game can be played with 2-6 players, designed for ages 10 and up.

Inverse. A simple, but ingenious strategy game for 2. Get all 5 of your playing pieces on the field while blocking your opponent. A competitive game of obstruction and construction. Fosters planning, strategy and spatial understanding in a fun and fast competitive framework. For 2 players, ages 6 and up.

Oh! Toys is the home of really special toys. Oh! Toys carries toys that are not widely carried so they are great for getting unique, hard to find gifts. All of the toys I have gotten from Oh! Toys have been really great for encouraging creativity and full engagement of my children's interest in activities such as constructing, playing, and pretending.

The owner of Oh! Toys, discovered the Swiss toy Cuboro in a gift store about 13 years ago and it actually changed his life! He says, "Originally bought as a buliding block and marble run toy gift for my young daughters, Cuboro wound up fascinating me as much as it did them -- for its wonderful design and it's developmental and educational qualities -- and its ability to totally absorb one's attention for extended periods of time! -- and I wound up starting Oh! Toys to help promote Cuboro in the U.S." He is still on his mission to spread the joy of Cuboro!

My family has been fortunate enough to try out ourselves. It is really a great toy because it is fun for the whole family. You and the kids use individual wooden blocks to build a marble track. They have all kinds of shaped blocks where the marble can drop in and spin or run over or through the different blocks. Cuboro provides endless possibilities to build so every time you can create something completely new. I think it is really an educational toy because they have to think about and plan how the pieces can fit together. It is just as engaging for me and my husband and we often find ourselves competing for certain blocks and getting to place the next one we had in mind when we build together! It is also great in that as the kid grows older they can build more and more complex arrangements for all the pretty shiny marbles to run through. My daughter's first creation was quite simple and now they can get pretty big and sprawling!

Delingos and other Unique, Educational Toys at Oh! Toys

Oh! Toys awesome toy store was started by Ken Kahn, a father who fell in love with a toy and it changed his life! He discovered the Swiss toy Cuboro in a gift store and brought it home to his daughters. Cuboro's wonderful design and it's developmental and educational qualities wound up fascinating him as much as it did his children. He wound up starting Oh! Toys with a simple purpose- to provide "cool toys that are hard to find." Ken also believes strongly in excellent customer service and he knows his toys inside out and backwards and really enjoys offering suggestions. He is a fun and funny guy believes in having fun and helping families find enriching toys.

You may be curious about what a Cuboro is, since it is the toy that launched the store!
Cuboro is a eco-friendly, high-quality, building block and marble track system. Cuboro elements feature functions on the surface as well as tunnel functions. Countless combinations are possible - starting from simple two-dimensional ones up to highly complex three-dimensional ones. There are also several sets that can work independently or together for building even more complex marble runs.
Oh! Toys also has some fun toys that are great for younger kids like Delingos quirky, highly tactile, stuffed animals. The Deglingos are an artist-deigned collection of French plush. They are a unique species of contagiously quirky animals whose names all end with 'os'. The name is a play on the French word 'deglingue' which roughly translates to 'crazy' or 'wacky'. My kids just adore them as you can see!

With summer here, it is game time more than ever! My children, like all kids, love to play. Being that they are only 3 and 5 years old, game choices, especially games that I can enjoy playing with them, are limited. We recently got Zimbbo's Elephantastic Pyrmaids from Oh! Toys and it is our new favorite game!

I really love Zimbbo's Elephantastic Pyrmaids for lots of reasons. When we first got them and unpacked them we all loved the great colorful wooden blocks with the very cute designs. We also all liked the way they are grooved and stack together in a variety of ways and have a great weight and size that make them easy and fun to handle. I liked that the elephants are numbered 1-10 as I suspected this would help my 3 year old learn his numbers and it really has! It is so fun and easy and a natural part of the game that he doesn't even know he is being taught. We all love the divider bars or "balancing bars" as my daughter calls them that allow you to make more complex designs and the cute joker characters as well. My favorite part about Zimbbo's Elephantastic Pyrmaids is that I actually enjoy playing it with the kids just as much as they do because it is different each time you play.

My other favorite part about Zimbbo's Elephantastic Pyrmaids is that they love playing with it by themselves in free play mode. I can not tell you how many hours my son as spent playing with the block pieces all by himself! At first, my son and daughter would spend time stacking them in all sorts of ways. Now my son makes elaborate zoos with the Zimbbos animals. He has lots of other animals but those are the ones that occupy him.

The experts say children playing with blocks are:
* Learning how to control small muscles and how to coordinate eyes and hands to stack and balance the blocks.
* Developing mathematical concepts by sorting the blocks by size and shape and figuring out what number of blocks are needed to fill a space.
* Experimenting with fundamental principles of physics, learning to predict cause-and-effect by discovering how high the blocks can be stacked before they fall.
* Gaining self-control, independence, and self-confidence.

The Zimbbo's Elephantastic Pyrmaids game is great because it combines block play with an organized framework that helps kids learn about taking turns, reading a die, and strategizing about placement. In short, we love it!

My husband really loved marble runs when he was a kid and he has been wanting to get one for our children. I had never had one but I figured a marble run would be a winner since all kids love balls, movement, and building! We tried out the Boyongolo Marble Track Construction Game from Oh! Toys.

The Boyongolo is a unique, brightly colored plastic ball run construction toy. It combines snap-together assembly of pieces with planning out the path of the ball. It is really loads of endless fun that can be put together in more and more complex ways as they grow older. I also love that it comes with a very nice box for storing the pieces and my daughter likes to arrange them like a puzzle inside. I can't imagine a kid who wouldn't love this toy!

My children totally love the Boyongolo and so does my husband! Even I enjoy playing it with them. I think that the coolest part about Boyongolo is that is great at engaging the adults too so it makes for a great together time activity with the kids. It was really fun building tracks with them, watching they way they think and learn and react to how and where the ball rolls. It is even cooler to walk in the room and see what they have built all by themselves- it made me so proud!
