For years, Beth Remmes, a stay at home mother of two young children, has recycled, sent e-mails to her representatives, and strived to be an environmentally-conscious consumer. “Beyond that,” she says, “I thought there wasn’t much more I could do to really make a difference.” Then she heard the statistic, If everyone just changed one light bulb to a CFL, it would be the equivalent of taking a million cars off the road.

“I wondered why everyone did not change their light bulbs, and I came to the conclusion that either they did not hear the message, or they did not have the time or know-how to act on the information.” Inspired, Remmes founded Zola: The Art of Living Green to educate people about small changes they can make to improve their lives and the environment.

Embracing a grassroots approach, Zola uses a single level model of direct sales and recruits “Coordinators” to have Eco Home Parties in their communities. In other words, this is not multi-level marketing. But is selling that operates on word of mouth to offer products that help us live greener. You do not have to sign up to be a coordinator in order to shop and if you do want to be a coordinator, you not be required to recruit other Coordinators nor are you expected to meet sales quotas or keep inventory. Coordinators also get personalized links they can use for people to order directly from them making online sharing easy.
