4 Good Choices of Pretend Toys for Kids to Enhance Their Development

>> Friday, April 30, 2010

This is a guest post by Debra R. Dixon.

Playing with pretend toys is not only fun for kids but it can also be a means for their growth and development. Here are good choices of pretend toys: dolls and dollhouses, kids play kitchen, workshop play set, and a medical play set.

Play has always been an important part in a child’s development. It is through it that their imaginations can be expressed in a vivid manner, and it can actually develop their senses, way of thinking, values, and how they can go about different roles they’ll be portraying in the future. That is why most toys today are made in such a way that it enhances children’s development. Very good examples of educational toys are the pretend toys which not only develop a child’s social growth and cognitive skills but they also enhance his language skills as well. Below are examples:

Dolls and dollhouses

Dolls are a very popular pretend toy as well as the dollhouses that come with it. Children often like to mimic what their mothers or older women do in taking care of babies. Dolls and dollhouses are also excellent ways in teaching children close family ties and taking care of members in the family or society.

Kids play kitchen

Young children love to participate in various activities. They often would ask what you’re doing in the kitchen and much as possible tries it themselves. Kids play kitchen are just the right toys for your children. It will teach them basic household chores and responsibilities like washing the dishes, and even develop their interest in cooking or baking. Some of these play kitchens already comes with a counter, a grill or burner, an oven, ice maker, a few cupboards, cabinets, towel racks, refrigerator, storage spaces, and a sink just like a real kitchen would look like. Others also include some toy kitchen utensils like plates, cups, spoons and forks, knives, pans, and with toy foods like fruits, vegetables, and meat.

Workshop play set

The best way to enhance your child’s motor skills and interest in arts is by exposing them to various handcrafting activities. The workshop play set is just the perfect pretend toy to enhance their different abilities. This set will definitely develop their imagination to create new things and understand how things work. Most workshop play set already includes a table, a bench, and some materials and safe tools for building.

Medical play set

For kids, pretending to be a doctor would be fun especially when playing with friends or even with dolls. This play set includes a doctor costume and a handbag where all medical accessories are placed like a toy stethoscope or thermometer. This toy would teach kids about teamwork and leadership.

Don’t underestimate the power of a good toy in developing the minds and skills of your children. You may not know their toys may be an initial step of what they will become in the future.

I hope you found the guest post interesting. Kids can use anything for imaginative play really. My daughter likes it when I use my two fingers and pretend they are a person. She calls him Joe and it is one of her favorite games! What toys do your children like to pretend with?

NOVICA helps master artisans get their handcrafts to the world market!

>> Thursday, April 29, 2010

NOVICA unites you with more than 2,000 extraordinary master artists around the world allowing you to read about their lives, explore their fascinating cultures, and select from more than 30,000 handcrafted works of art. Their mission is to "give artists and artisans around the world a global platform to express their true artistic talents and to spur their creativity. And, we want to provide you with access to unique, hard-to-find items at great values that only the Internet infrastructure can allow. At the deepest essence of our philosophy, we want to create a bridge between you and the many talented artisans across the globe. We want you to know about who you're buying from. We want you to feel that attachment to the product and to the hands that created it."

Novica, provides many talented artisans with the opportunity to pursue those talents instead of work low income drudge jobs. In the words of a wood scultpor from Bali, Ketut Taram, "Before working with Novica, I sold my work at our local art market, with only a few months of good sales per year. There, buyers didn't seem interested in knowing about the artist. They just bargained for a souvenir - for a memory of Bali, at the cheapest price. At that time, my main concern was just to earn enough to support my family. Everything began to change when I joined Novica. Now, I'm directly connected to interested customers around the world. They know my name, and they read my biography. I now enjoy reading compliments written by my customers, especially those who explain how certain of my carvings carry important meanings for them. Now Novica accounts for half of my income and the respect Novica has brought me, as an artist, is priceless." You can read many more stories like this one at Novica and when you place an order, you receive, your artists story on a card along with your new treasure(s).

Novica has a very wide selection of Home Decor including, Area Rugs, Chess Sets & Games, Furniture, Masks, Mirrors, Musical Instruments, Sculpture, Tableware & Entertaining, Vases, and Wall Hangings & Tapestries. They also have Jewelry & Apparel including, Clothing & Accessories, Handbags, Handmade Jewelry, and Travel Bags. You can even select from unique gifts and paintings.

I ordered Highball glasses, 'Confetti' (set of 6) and I absolutely love them. In fact, I have been growing more and more attached to them. They are very pretty and a nice weight, not to light or heavy. They are just the right diameter to be able to fit your hand inside of and wash out. These highball glasses are adorned with bright bursts of color and go great with a wide variety of dishes. These glasses are dishwasher safe and, of course, free of lead and toxins. Since the 1990s, the aritists, Javier Gutiérrez and Efrén Canteras have worked together to preserve Mexico's blown glass artistry.

I also ordered a Cotton tank top in 'Classic Olive' from Bali. It adapts the classic tank top to show off the shoulders. I liked that it is 100% cotton and is not too close to the skin. It is great for keeping cool in the hot weather as fitted tanks always make me sweat! It is a great basic for my summer wardrobe. It also came packaged beautifully!

Take advantage of Novica's mother's day specials.

Novica did provide me with a gift card to use towards my purchase in hopes that I would share my honest opinions. I received no monetary compensation and the opinions expressed are my own.

Family Eco Movie, "Furry Vengeance," Releasing Friday, April 30th

Furry Vengeance is a live action family comedy in which an ambitious young real estate developer, (Brendan Fraser), faces off with a band of angry animals when his new housing subdivision pushes too far into a pristine part of the wilderness. Led by an incredibly clever raccoon, the animals stymie the development and teach the hero about the environmental consequences of man's encroachment on nature.

It looks really slap stick silly and the animals are so cute! I bet my daughter would love this movie! You can see the trailer at http://www.furryvengeance-movie.com/

Vistaprint Calendar Magnets- What a great way to share your blog or biz! Discount and Giveaway!

You have probably heard of Vistaprint before since they are very well known for reasonable prices on your printing needs. I first discovered Vistaprint several years ago when I tried their free business cards (you just pay for shipping and handling). I have recommended them to countless people including my mother for their great selection on free business cards. I have also used Vistaprint to purchase t-shirts for my business. They have the most reasonable prices I could find for this (or I wouldn't have used them!) Naturally, I thought of them for my latest need.

I was straightening my fridge magnets with my kiddos art the other day and I thought, "This is a great way to advertise." I mean here I was arranging magnets that came off the phone book for unknown lawyers. I would certainly rather have magnets of cool businesses that I like! So, I thought what a great way to introduce someone to my blog by handing them something they could actually use.

Vistaprint was gracious enough to provide me with the exact thing I had in mind. They had tons of choices and patterns to choose from with the calendar magnets that I wanted. And best of all, not only was it personalized, I could add my logo and they had enough color choices that I could select one that matches my blog. I was very pleased with the quick easy process and navigating the Vistaprint website. I was also tempted by all the other choices of magnets! They have various free items you can try out so I also added a free personalized pen to my shopping cart. Very cute!

Pretty in Pearls- Beautiful Pearl Bracelet and Silver Jingle Bracelet

>> Monday, April 26, 2010

Today, I would like to let you know about a fabulous website- Pretty in Pearls. The creator of Pretty In Pearls is a mother of four priceless pearls herself and she is also the creator of the Original Baby's First Pearls Keepsake Jewelry. Pretty in Pearls carries Pearl Earrings, Pearl Necklaces, Pearl Bracelets, Baby's First Pearls Keepsake, My First Pearls for Girls, and Simply Sensational Silver jewelry.

I received two items from Pretty in Pearls and let me tell you she really packs items nicely. They came in lovely gift boxes and were wrapped in a pink gauze. What nice presentation!

My daughter was lucky enough to receive a My First Pearls for Girls Bracelet. It is absolutely stunning! The pearls really are luminous! Needless to say she loves it. The bracelet is made from cultured Akoya pearls, graded AAA for their shape, color and luster, have been individually hand-knotted and finishedwith a gold-filled clasp. They're also available with an adjustable clasp to grow with a girl for several years. The adjustable clasp is more practical and modern; the gold clasps are more traditional. This is certainly a special gift that we will cherish and which I believe will become a heirloom. The price of the bracelet is really quite reasonable too! A matching pearl necklace is also available.

My daughter also received a Twinkle Bells, Jingle Bracelet for Girls. It has sterling silver stars and a single silver bell on a sterling silver chain. It sparkles nicely and jingles gently! She loves the soft music it makes. I love that it is adjustable! To be honest, I love the star bracelet too and since my wrists are so tiny she lets me borrow it!

These bracelets are really beautiful and I am sure she will get even more enjoyment out of them in years to come. Pretty in Pink has great jewelry items if you are shopping for a baptism gift, baby keepsake, baby shower gift, first birthday gift, christening gifts or for any special occasion. Go ahead and check out Pretty in Pearls today!

Pretty in Pink did share these two bracelets with me in the hopes that I would review them on my blog. I received no monetary compensation and the opinions expressed are my honest opinions.

Tsumiki Unique Wooden Construction Blocks from Oh! Toys

>> Sunday, April 25, 2010

Oh! Toys is all about cool and unusual toys and Tsumiki combines classic wooden blocks with a unique twist. They have notches in the blocks that allow children to use them in all new ways.

Tsumiki Construction Blocks
reflect the rich architectural design heritage of Japan from where they are imported. The innovative shapes and beautiful finish in this wooden construction toy set let you create shapes and structures way beyond the conventional wooden block set.

Tsumiki blocks come in a great wooden case. As a parent who is constantly trying to pick up toys, I really love it when they come in a case and this is a nice wooden case with a slide top. My kids actually make a whole extra game out of putting the blocks back into the box because they only fit when the are stacked neatly inside.

Unlike the simple geometric shapes of standard kindergarten blocks, Tsumiki blocks have unique angles, notches and curves. My kids are three and five and these blocks were great for inspiring both of them and letting both of them work within their creative abilities. The blocks come with a sheet with photos of lots of ways that the blocks can be arranged. My daughter really enjoyed trying to recreate these works while my son just likes stacking them in whatever order he chooses. They have gotten lots of play time our to these blocks and some of their creations would be worthy of display, if my son didn't knock them down! My kids really enjoy their Tsumiki blocks and I can see why they won the Parent's Choice Award!

You can check out Tsumiki blocks and lots of other unique toys at Oh! Toys and for a limited time if you "like" Oh! Toys on Facebook and leave a comment, you will be entered to win a $200 GC from Oh! Toys.

Oh! Toys did provide me with the Tsumiki blocks in hopes that I would share my honest opinions on my blog. I received no monetary compensation for the review and the opinions expressed are my own.

Ping Your Blog- BlogBuzzer Premium is a Great Tool For Every Blogger

>> Saturday, April 24, 2010

I have been blogging for almost 5 months now! Wow, that went by fast! I have been figuring out things as I go and one tool I stumbled upon was BlogBuzzer. I always have my ears and eyes open to see what is working for other people and and I read somewhere that a group of bloggers always pinged their important articles for maximum exposure. "Pinged?," I was off to learn more about whatever that was because it sounded good!

That is how I discovered BlogBuzzer. They ping for your blog for FREE. I loved the sound of that. I also loved their very non-cluttered, visually appealing website that is super easy to use. You type in your blog, and they ping it! That is it, you're done. But what is "pinging" anyway? "Ping" involves BlogBuzzer submitting your blog to multiple search sites and blog directories. Once a blog is pinged it is picked up by the appropriate blog directory or search site and is marked to be indexed.

Have you ever left a comment on a blog that has the "comment luv" application? If so, you have probably noticed that it adds a link to your last post. You may have also noticed that it is not actually your last post if you haven't pinged your blog. If you don't ping your blog, you just have to wait for the bots to come by and notice that you have made updates. If you have a time sensitive article, like a post about Earth Day, and search engines don't notice until weeks later, you've missed a lot of traffic you are not going to get back. Of course, that holds true for all of your post. That is why pinging is such a valuable service.

Getting excited aren't you? I love learning blog tips too but there is even more!! I just discovered BlogBuzzer Premium. It is even better! Premium membership allows unlimited pinging as well as submission to search engines and 24/7 monitoring and pinging of your blogs. I was so excited about BloggBuzzer premium because it automatically pings my blog meaning that it saves me having to remember to do it and it saves me time. That is appealing enough to me but then I learned that Premium membership includes even more! Along with the standard blog directory sites that are pinged by BlogBuzzer your blogs will also be submitted to other major directories including: Delicious, StumbleUpon , Twitter, Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Ask.com
This whole service is available for just $9/year!

I am so glad that BlogBuzzer approached me and let me try their premium service. I will certainly be renewing it. I think BlogBuzzer Premium is a fabuous tool for every blogger to save time and increase visibility and traffic! Find the true traffic potential of your blog with BlogBuzzer Premium.

If you enjoyed this article, you may also like to read blog networking tips to increase traffic.

BlogBuzzer did provide me with Premium Membership in hope that I would share my opinions of it. I did not receive monetary compensation and the opinions expressed are my own.
